The Old Guard conducts tactical training to sustain proficiency in its mission to defend the National Capital Region, as it did on 9/11 in response to the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon Building
The Dream
The dream began in the crucible of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, where Old Guard soldiers quickly deployed to provide security and assist in rescue operations. For three weeks, day and night, its soldiers confronted death, suffering and grief. During those trying days, Col. James F. Laufenburg, the Regimental Commander, resolved that he would lead an effort to honor the extraordinary men and women of The Old Guard.
